Importing Data

Overview

You can import clients and cases into Firm Chambers from CSV or XLSX files. This is useful when migrating from another system or onboarding a batch of new records.

Step 1: Download the Template

Navigate to Data Management > Import and click "Download Template" for the resource type you want to import (Clients or Cases). The template includes all required and optional columns with example data.

Step 2: Prepare Your Data

Fill in the template with your data. Required fields are marked in the column headers. Common fields include:

  • Clients: First name, last name, email, phone, company name, address.
  • Cases: Case reference, title, client (must match an existing client), practice area, status.

Step 3: Upload the File

Click "Import" and select your prepared file. The system validates the data and shows a preview of what will be created.

Step 4: Review and Confirm

Review the import summary showing total rows, rows to be created, and any rows with errors. Fix any validation errors in your file and re-upload, or proceed with the valid rows.

Step 5: Monitor Progress

The import runs in the background. Check the Import Jobs tab to see progress, success counts, and any row-level errors with details about what went wrong.

Tips

  • Always use the provided template to ensure column names match exactly.
  • Import clients before cases, since cases need to reference existing client records.
  • Test with a small batch first to verify your data format is correct before importing the full dataset.
